The Dragon And The Witch, Chapter 8

The Dragon’s Breath

Where the Witch learned to quiet her pain, the Dragon learned to quiet the sky.

All creatures breathe, but a Dragon’s breath is far more than air — it is will made visible.

As with all Magic, undivided will and strong intent are paramount.

“For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” – Mark 11:23

“But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man [is] unstable in all his ways.” – James 1:6-8

And so it came to pass that the wind itself listened when the Dragon breathed with purpose.

One night, shortly after the Dragon had retired to his chambers for the night, a call came through. Voices from far away spoke of a great storm, a vast Pacific cyclone, headed towards the shores of Japan. The storm’s focus appeared to be fixed upon the place where the Western world’s armies kept their lines of speech. Fear had already taken wing among them and the Dragon could feel the anxiousness in their voices.

The Dragon listened, and when the tale was finished he answered only “I’ll see what I can do.”

He turned to his black scrying mirror and asked it to show him the matter. He breathed…not a shout, not a command but a conscious urging by will for the storm to remember gentleness. Immediately it deviated from the path of destruction and began to loosen its grip on fury.

By the time it reached land it was miles to the west of its foreseen path and had become weary so that it did no harm.

Some call it coincidence.

The Dragon calls it what it is…magic.
